CLASSIFICATION OF REAL NUMBERS - CONTINUED

The Natural Numbers worked quite well in most situations in early childhood.  However, their limitations were obvious even to children.  For instance, how do you express "nothing”?  

2. To overcome this deficit we added the number zero to our collection of numbers, resulting in the formation of the Whole Numbers:

{0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ...}
